If your application was filed in Dubai, the status sits with GDRFA Dubai and you check it on the GDRFA status tracking page. Filed in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, it sits with ICP instead, at smartservices.icp.gov.ae. Both checks are free, neither needs an account, and both return a result in under a minute once you pick the correct search option. Portals checked in August 2026.
Which portal holds your file, and why it matters
Dubai runs its own residency authority. GDRFA Dubai issues and records every entry permit and residence file in the emirate, so a Dubai application will not appear on the federal ICP system, and a Sharjah or Abu Dhabi file will not appear on GDRFA. This single point causes more “no record found” panic than any other.
The same split applies to golden visas. A Dubai golden visa, whether through property, salary or business, is tracked on GDRFA. Golden visas processed in other emirates are tracked through ICP. If you applied through a typing centre or an Amer centre and are not sure which authority received the file, look at the payment receipt: it names the issuing authority.
The five search options on the GDRFA page, and what each one needs
Open the GDRFA Dubai status tracking service. The page asks you to choose what you are searching for before it shows any input fields, and each choice asks for a different set of details:
- Application: application number, transaction number and payment date
- File: file number, first name in English, nationality and date of birth
- Over the counter service: application number and the mobile number used at submission
- Establishment: establishment number and expiry date
- Reconsideration request: application or file number and nationality
Two practical notes. The application number and the transaction number are different numbers, and both are printed on the payment receipt you received when the request was submitted. The payment date means the date on that receipt, not the date you handed over your documents. Enter the date exactly as it appears.
The page also tends to open in Arabic even when you arrive from an English link. Switch it using the language toggle at the top of the page before you start typing, because the field order changes between the two versions.
How to check a dependent visa status
A spouse or child has their own application. When their file was submitted, it generated its own application and transaction numbers, and those are what the portal wants, not the sponsor’s. Search under the dependent’s details, using the receipt issued for that specific request.
Once a residence file exists for the dependent, you can switch to the File option and search by file number, first name in English, nationality and date of birth. Enter the name exactly as printed in the passport, including middle names if they were typed that way at submission. A mismatch of one character returns nothing, and the system gives no hint that the name was the problem.
Stuck? If your status has not moved for more than ten working days and no email has arrived, call the authority rather than assume the worst. ICP is on 600 522222. GDRFA Dubai is on 800 5111 inside the UAE, or +971 521430280 from outside the country.
Where golden visa applicants actually get stuck
The most common false alarm we see is a property-route applicant in Dubai searching for a status that does not exist yet. Property nominations frequently begin at the Dubai Land Department, and until the residency request itself is created and paid for, there is no GDRFA application number to search. Nothing is wrong; the file simply has not reached the tracker.
The second is a renewed passport. If you replaced your passport after submission, the details held against the file are the old ones, and the File search will keep failing until the file is updated. That correction is a separate transaction, not something the tracker fixes.

Can I check my GDRFA application status without logging in?
Yes. The status tracking service is public. You do not need a GDRFA account, UAE Pass or Emirates ID to run it, only the numbers from your payment receipt or your file details. Any site that asks you to pay for this check is not the government portal.
What does it mean if the result says the request is under process?
That the file is with GDRFA and no action is needed from you. Straightforward residence requests usually move within a few working days, though nothing is guaranteed and golden visa cases involving verification take longer. Worry when the result asks for a modification, because that means a document or detail needs correcting before the file moves on.
Why does my visa show nothing on ICP when it is definitely valid?
The likeliest reason is that it is a Dubai file, which ICP does not hold. After that, check whether your passport number changed since the visa was issued, and try searching by unified number instead. A dropped leading zero in a passport number is the third most common cause.
How do I check a status if I only have a passport number?
Use ICP’s inquiry by passport information, which accepts passport number, nationality and date of birth for non-Dubai files. GDRFA’s tracker is built around application, file and establishment numbers, so for a Dubai case, find the payment receipt or ask the Amer centre that submitted it to resend the numbers.
